Brief Introduction to ETEA

What is ETEA ?

Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency NWFP, is an educational entity established in November, 1998, by the Government of NWFP. It is supervised by a Board of Governors, headed by the Chief Minister, NWFP. The Education Minister is the Vice Chairman and Secretary Education is one of the members. The Director ETEA is the Secretary of the Board.

What Does it Do ?

Initially, the ETEA was established to undertake administration of Entrance Tests for admission to Engineering and Medical institutions of the province in place of external testing agencies. However, the scope of activities and the objectives for the ETEA were broadened much beyond the Entrance Tests as stated in the Ordinance. In short, it has to catalyse reforms in the examination and testing systems, impart training on these endeavours and extend the use of its electronic facilities to other institutions to bring in objectivity, transparency and efficiency.

So far, the Agency has conducted Ten sets each of  Entrance Tests, for the N.W.F.P. University of Engineering and Technology and the Medical Colleges of the Province. The results were delivered within 24 Hours. It is a record achievement on the national level. In addition, ETEA also conducts Tests for Institute of Management Sciences Peshawar, Working Folks Grammar Schools and Schools & Literacy Department.

 

How is Entrance Testing Different under ETEA ?

  1. Earlier, students did not have much awareness as to what MCQs are and how to prepare for them. The rural students were most hard hit. Now they have “PREETEST”, a resource and guidance material containing about 5000 MCQs, based on F.Sc. syllabus.
  2. Generally the answer sheets are marked with PENCIL, students suspect the possibility of tampering. ETEA has offered facility of marking with black PEN or MARKER.
  3. Usual practice is to declare results days after the test. ETEA has been able to report results the same night or within 24 hours.
  4. Generally, candidates could not verify their performance in the test, that is their score. ETEA offers the facility of verification of the results by the candidates soon after the test.
